Self-esteem, life-transition expert, Pamela Chapman, works with women who are ready to turn their adversities into victories. Her “sick and tired of being sick and tired” clients are ready to: expand beyond their perceived limitations, maximize their potential and realize their purpose. These new-thought women realize that victimization is not sexy or appealing. They believe strength, resilience, and tenacity are. Her clients look for wisdom, support, and often time, guidance in their transition. “We don’t let you give up, we help you get up,” she asserts.
“When you look up the word resilient, you see my picture,” states Ms. Chapman. I’ve overcome obstacles that would have put most in padded cells. Growing up in the South Bronx, Chapman survived childhood abuse, religious oppression, low self-esteem, and teenage alcoholism. Winning an academic scholarship to an elite all-girls Catholic school in Yonkers, NY brought new challenges. Overwhelmed, she gave up her scholarship and sought employment at one of Wall Street’s most prestigious companies. Because she was a quick learner, Irving Trust Company fast-tracked the young woman and life was good.
Fast forward 14 years. As a mom, wife, and part-time employee, Chapman returned to college full-time. Pursuing a degree in Management Information Systems, she was confronted by her husband, of seven years, needing to find himself. She was forced to return to work with an A.A. Degree versus the Bachelor’s Degree she so desired. Now armed with a two-year degree and a 4.0 GPA, Ms. Chapman’s career was obstructed, but she wasn’t being stopped.
Surviving many painstaking assignments, she finally landed her ideal position. At Safeco Select, she helped organize and facilitate diversity workshops resulting in increased self-esteem and communication helping to stabilize turnover in two offices. She founded and led the Community Involvement Committee. She was also involved in several human services activities within the organization. This is when she realized her love for philanthropy as well as her gift for mentoring and leading.
Chapman had the bug, and no longer caring about Corporate’s bottom line, she said, “adios.” Setting the intent, it wasn’t long before a door opened. She went to work for one of Orange County’s larger nonprofits first as a volunteer manager, then as a case manager. In the very powerful “Strong Beginnings” program, she assisted residentially-challenged individuals, mostly women and children.
Serving over one hundred families, these precious women and children did not just move out of their condition but one-third of her caseload, those truly committed, were empowered and enlightened. Through her countless hours of counseling, educating, and mentoring, families found: their self-worth, their true self-expression, restoration, and hope through fundamental truth. Chapman believed herself to be an H. R. Specialist–-a Hope Restoring Specialist.
Ms. Chapman now combines her personal resilience, tenacity, and her ability to love unconditionally with her strong administrator, mentoring, and counseling abilities to run iAscend Programs, LLC.
